Dev Log 7 - Production


[Semester 2: Weeks 8-11]

Production on Kalidax Farming Program is nearing its end and our team has been hard at work on the game. 

Most recently, we finished up our third playtest. This playtest had the main gameplay loop fully implemented. Players in this build were able to talk to aliens directly and sell them from the same menus. They were also able to merge aliens together with the gene splicing pod. Some additional asset implementation for art, sound & music was also included. 

I conducted 3 playtests alongside work on my production tasks. The results were quite insightful. Many of our playtesters highlighted areas for UI/UX improvements. They wished that incubation pods had a pop-up that showed how much it would cost to purchase them. They also wished that they had confirmation beforehand. Something similar was requested for the provisions drone. Several playtesters commented saying that they felt they could employ more strategy if they knew how much aliens and seeds sold for. 

Outside of playtesting, I've been working on implementing the character art I've done for the game. All 3 tiers of both the sprog and longstrider lines are nearly complete. The third stages have been designed, but not yet lined, rendered, and prepared for engine. Outside of Krita, I'm working in engine on rigging the sprites in preparation for animation. The first stages of the sprog and longstrider are rigged (although the rigs require some slight touch-ups). Attempting to skin the main character sprite resulted in some errors which I will address soon as part of our team's next steps.
