Dev Log 3 - Scheduling My Work

[Semester 1: Weeks 9 - 11]
In the past few weeks, our development team has collaborated to fill out documentation for our game; Kalidax Farming Program. Together we filled out the bones of our GDD, alongside a team charter and creative brief. After presenting a design proposal presentation, we took a break during Reading Week. Work resumed after our program wide Design Week event.

We identified the next steps required to continue development. This included writing up a risk assessment, schedule, and project plan. This past week, I created a WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) diagram to schedule my own tasks. As the team's primary asset artist, I wrote up a list of all components needed to fulfill the game's aesthetic needs. Environment art, character art, and UI elements were all taken into consideration. When we exit the project planning and initial design phases some of our designers will take on an art role as well so I won't be responsible for creating every asset. However, developing my WBS gave me a better understanding of my expected workload. I'm planning to consult the other artists on my team and figure out which assets/tasks they feel most comfortable taking on.

We have been meeting thrice every week now since the team formed. Once every Tuesday during our class time, once again in the afternoon from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, and once on Fridays from 1:00 to 1:30 PM for a brief check-in. Check-ins for the past two weeks have been skipped in favour of a brief check-in over our Discord channels. This was to allow team members to address more important tasks.

The risk assessment has already been filled out. This week our team is planning on meeting to fill out the master schedule.
